U.S. and Iran Agree to Halt Attacks, Will Meet This Week
The U.S. and Iran showcased the fragile state of their ceasefire over the weekend, exchanging rocket fire as the global energy market continued to heal from Operation Epic Fury. America’s strikes on Saturday led to an Iranian assault on Sunday, each of which followed a Thursday attack on a Singapore-flagged commercial vessel trying to exit the Strait of Hormuz.
All reasonable people hope these incidents will not restart the war. It appears that they will not.
The skirmishing nations reportedly agreed on Sunday to stop attacking each other and instead plan to hold their latest round of peace talks in Qatar on Tuesday. The summit will follow last week’s negotiations in Switzerland, which ended after both sides agreed to establish a "hotline" between the U.S. military and the IRGC to coordinate traffic in the Strait. As of Saturday, the “hotline” was still not operational.
